My darling Monty went over the bridge this afternoon at 18.00 He had a lovely last walk. He met his best doggy friends, Keith's Lorna, Hugo and Sandy and went for a paddle in the harbour. He chased a tennis ball but not for as long as usual. Both Keith and I didn't think that was a good sign. When we got home he passed a lump of very strange and rotten smelling substance Which I thought and Graham confirmed, looked like part of his bowel. He had lost over two Kg in 3 weeks and we suspected bowel cancer. Together with double incontinence, he had no way back. After the walk the look in his eyes said he was desperate to climb onto the sofa next to me as if asking to be helped out of his misery, he did and just flopped down next to me.
At the vet's, I lay on floor and hugged him until the ketamin kicked in, so I hope he went knowing he was greatly loved. He would never have improved and Graham felt I had made the right decision .
I shall miss him so very much. We must have walked 1000s of miles in the 9.1/2 years He was my best doggy friend. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and the many happy hours we all had on Keith's monthly walks. Colin.
